The Sconnie and the Mac Daddy are popular menu items at this newly opened pizzeria - Milwaukee Journal Sentinel

There is a new pizzeria in town.

Giuseppe's Pizzeria opened this fall at 615 Main St. in Delafield, operated by Dawn Sonntag and Andrew Keark. The establishment took over the space from Bennollis, which closed after 12 years.

"We're independently owned and operated," Sonntag said. "We created our own menu and our own branding."

Keark is the restaurant's chef and created all of the recipes.

"I've owned businesses before but never in the restaurant industry," Sonntag said. "I rely on his expertise to execute in the kitchen. I do what I know how to do, which is work with the community. I have a background in nonprofit consulting, and I currently own a company that supports students who are deaf and hard of hearing."

Giuseppe's offers pizza, gelato and subs.

"We use thin crust, sticking to Italian roots," Sonntag said of the pizza. "We have a sweeter sauce and use a whole-milk mozzarella that is made in Wisconsin."

So far, popular pizza options have been the Sconnie (mozzarella, provolone, white cheddar, Parmesan cheese with homemade Alfredo sauce) and the Mac Daddy (mozzarella white cheddar and mac noodles).

Sonntag said the restaurant currently has three tables for dine-in, but more will be added. In the summer, there will also be tables to eat outside.

The take-and-bake approach has also been a popular option for customers in Giuseppe's first month of business.

"We use a stone pizza oven," Sonntag said. "It's really good if you dine-in or take out because our pizzas are very crisp throughout, but people have been loving the take-and-bake, especially people coming from far. We recommend if they do the take-and-bake to make it on a pizza stone."

The establishment also recently started offering delivery.

Italian ice, along with more of a focus on gelato, will be offered in future summers.

Giuseppe's is open from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday and Sunday, and 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

In the summer, the restaurant will open at 11 a.m.
