Pizza Hut is helping to put great books that are inclusive of all types of people into the hands of needy children this holiday through its campaign with First Book and the author of the kids' book, "I Am Perfectly Designed," Karamo. The fundraiser, that runs through Dec. 31, aims to increase access to "culturally relevant children's books" nationally, a news release said.
Pizza Hut customers can add a First Book donation to their orders to provide educators with grants to buy such books on the market and bring others into print. Customers can also buy a First Book Bundle where a dollar from every purchase goes to the cause.
Pizza Hut is also supporting the First Book Accelerator, which works to help teachers and parents use resources to talk about the issues of diversity and inclusion with kids.
"For 35 years we have fostered a passion for reading. From Book It! kids who feel that sense of achievement earning their first Personal Pan Pizza to students who feel a sense of pride when they receive their very first book to call their own, the emotional connection to reading runs deep," Pizza Hut Global CEO Artie Starrs, said in the release. "But we fear that love for reading is being stunted because of the lack of representation in books offered to children. Joining forces with Karamo and investing in our partnership with First Book is a powerful opportunity to successfully increase access to diverse children's books."
