Detroit-based pizza chain Little Caesars announced Monday it will offer pizza delivery through DoorDash — a leader in the growing food delivery arena.
The move toward delivery is a significant for Little Caesars. While pizza is one the most popular food items for delivery, Little Caesars, for its nearly 60 years in business, except for a few locations, has been a take-out place.
The service will be available at stores throughout the U.S. and Canada. And the pizza chain is touting that its delivery service will be more affordable than other chains, costing at least $5 less.
“We’ve seen such expensive and complex pricings throughout the pizza industry, and we think it’s crazy!” David Scrivano, president & CEO for Little Caesars said in a statement. “Some chains require a minimum purchase to get their deals, or the discount pricing is only available on carry-out orders. We’re excited to bring much needed affordability to delivered pizza.”
The pizza chain's full menu will be available during all hours for delivery through DoorDash.
Customers will need the mobile app or can order online. Once you place an order and prepay, choose to pick-up it up or have it delivered. The pizza is kept in the stores self-service Pizza Portal — think of it as a pizza warmer — until pick up time.
Through the app, a DoorDash driver is notified of the order. Next, the driver goes into the store, gets the order and delivers it to the customer. You can also track your order from store to your door.
Food delivery options have grown as people want dine in on their dining out favorites. DoorDash has garnered more than 30% of market share.
According to the NPD Group's Delivery Digital Convenience report, digital restaurant orders — those meals ordered via mobile app, internet or text message — have grown by 23 percent over the past four years. For 2020, NPD forecasts digital orders will continue its double-digit growth.
