Third pizza delivery driver allegedly robbed - El Dorado News-Times

A delivery driver for a local pizza restaurant was allegedly robbed early Friday morning, with the suspect making off with cash and food.

It was the third robbery or attempted robbery of a pizza delivery driver to be reported in the city within the past month.

Officers were called at 12:20 a.m. Friday to Domino’s Pizza, 1300 N. West Ave., in reference to a robbery.

An employee told police she was robbed as she delivered an order to a residence in the 700 block of South Parkway.

The complainant said a male was waiting outside the residence when she arrived and as she approached him, he told her “to give him her money, the pizza and leave.”

She said the suspect did not appear to have a weapon but she complied with his demands, fearing that he may forcibly take the items. She added that she complied with the restaurant’s policy regarding such incidents by handing over the items, $100 cash and a pizza valued at $20.

Police said they spoke with residents at the South Parkway house and they were not aware a robbery had occurred.

Police also said they circulated the description but did not find the suspect, who was described as a white male wearing a ball cap and a jean jacket.

Delivery drivers from Pizza Hut and Domino’s reported a robbery and attempted robbery on Dec. 3 and 4, respectively, at Hillsboro Townhouse Apartments, 1600 Short East Hillsboro. The suspects were reportedly armed with guns in both incidents.

Breaking or entering reported at Andy’s

Police briefly detained and released a potential suspect in a vehicle break-in that was reported Jan. 2 at Andy’s Restaurant, 1305 N. West Ave.

Officers were called to the scene at approximately 5:55 p.m. and while en route, they learned that a potential suspect had been seen in the area of Arkansas and Hammond streets.

A man told police that someone had broken into his vehicle at Andy’s and stolen a handgun, two ammunition magazines and a pill dispenser containing prescription medication.

He said a small amount of cash may have also been taken from the vehicle.

The complainant said he and several of his co-workers were dining inside the restaurant when one of his co-workers stepped outside and saw the lights on inside the complainant’s vehicle and a man running east on Eighth Street, which runs just south of Andy’s.

The suspect ran south between the baseball fields of the Boys and Girls Club of El Dorado, also just south of Andy’s, before the complainant’s co-worker lost sight of him, according to a police report.

The complainant said he and his co-workers got into another vehicle and spotted the suspect in the area of Jefferson and Fifth streets. They then followed him to the intersection of Arkansas and Hammond, where officers detained him.

Police said the potential suspect was released because he did not have in his possession any of the items that were reported stolen from the vehicle.

During a search of the area, police said they found a total of $3.28 in cash and change strewn along the walking path between the BGCE baseball fields and they seized the cash as evidence.

The complainant said he believed the cash was taken from his vehicle.
