Defia Rosmaniar presents first gold medal for Indonesia

Defia Rosminar won a gold medal from women's Poomsae individual.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian taekwondo athlete Defia Rosmaniar presented the first gold medal for Indonesia in the 18th Asian Games. She won a gold medal from women's Poomsae individual here on Sunday.

Defia won the medal after successfully defeating Marjan Salahshouri from Iran 8,690-8,470. She claimed to be proud of being watched by President Joko Widodo from the semifinals to the final.

"What is certain is that we are proud of being watch it from the semifinals to the finals. Then we will hold the medals," Defia said after the medal at the 2018 Asian Games taekwondo arena at JCC Senayan, Jakarta, on Sunday.

According to her, this has become a special seed for her when competing. During the medal gathering, she said, the president expressed his pride.

"The president delivered this first gold of the Asian Games," she said.

As an Asian Games gold medalist, Defia will be rewarded with a bonus of Rp1.5 billion. If later the bonus is disbursed, the 23-year-old woman will bring her mother to worship in the Holy Land.

"Definitely it will be used for the good," she concluded.
