Sophia’s Pizzeria to open in Cumberland County neighborhood - PennLive.com

After five years, a longtime New Cumberland area pizza shop is returning under a new name.

Owners of the one-time Original Italian Pizza at 113 Old York Road in Fairview Township are opening Sophia’s Pizzeria later this year or in early 2020. The shop will pull into the former Little Caesar’s at 119 Bridge St.

“We are going to do more gourmet pizzas. We are still going to stick to the original sauce and dough,” said Rosa Chubb, co-owner.

In 1992 her parents Joanne and Tony Passalacqua opened the Original Italian Pizza shop where they served homemade pizza, subs and other fare for about 23 years.

But the couple and their children closed the shop in 2015 to open Sophia’s Italian Restaurant & Pizzeria, a full-service Italian establishment in Reading.

However, they are in the process of selling that restaurant. The family still lives in New Cumberland and has grown tired of the trips back and forth to Reading, Chubb said.

The new Sophia’s, named after Chubb’s 6-year-old daughter, will stick to a basic takeout pizza shop menu with pizzas, subs, cheese steaks and stromboli.

Chubb’s husband, Jeremy Chubb, and her brother, Benny Passalacqua, will oversee the restaurant along with assistance from Tony Passalacqua.

The menu will cover a variety of pizzas such as chicken bacon ranch, meat lover and grandma pizza along with loaded french fries, wings and hot and cold subs. It also will offer online ordering and delivery.

The shop will be open Monday through Saturday.
