Empty out those junk drawers, Iowans: Casey's General Stores are going digital.
The company announced this month that its popular pizza box top program, which allows customers to redeem 10 cardboard pizza box tops for a free large pie, will become a digital program on an app.
Casey's will accept the box tops until March 1, according to the company's website. Box tops can also be brought in and loaded into a Casey's Rewards account at any general store.
The transition officially occurs in January, but customers with the app and a Casey's account have been able to earn digital box top credits as of Dec. 1, the company said.
Many people on social media were disappointed in the decision, asking Casey's to consider older customers not familiar with today's technology and people who do not use smartphones.
A statement from Casey's Communications Director Katie Petru acknowledged that customers value the program and said the company has received positive responses from customers.
"Many of our guests have commented on the positive evolution to offer the program through our digital platforms and make it easier to track," the statement said.
