More than a dozen new places to try pizza in metro Atlanta - Atlanta Journal Constitution

Have a craving for pizza? You don’t have to look far for a pie in metro Atlanta, where it seems like pizzerias are as omnipresent as streets named for peaches. 

Looking for a new spot for a slice? Check out these local pizza places that opened  in 2019.

AmmazzaIt took 22 months for the original Ammazza on Edgewood to recover from the structural calamity that began on June 10, 2017: a devastating car crash that ruptured a water main; followed by a second facade-ripping vehicular assault less than a month later. Big Bang Pizza. Get your pizza with a side of tech at Big Bang, which features three robot servers bringing your order to the table.

Crazy Dough’s. The Massachusetts-based pizza chain opened locations this year in Sugar Hill, Buford and Midtown. The menu offers giant pizza by the slice, build-your-own pies and gourmet pizzas including Tuscan Balsamic and Sweet Chili Chicken.

Firewall Food Stop. Firewall Food Stop offers to-go service Friday, Saturday and Sunday in Westview. The menu features four rotating specialty woodfire Neapolitan-style pizzas including The Farmer, made with fennel sausage, sweet peppers and fresh mozzarella; The Gardener with spinach, tomato, ricotta, lemon and garlic; The Rancher made with country ham, ricotta, egg yolk and arugula; and The Cook with Grandma’s Sunday gravy, beef short rib, long hot peppers and Parmesan. There’s also a build-your-own pizza option.

Flying Crust/Hide Kitchen and Cocktails. Flying Crust, which opened earlier this year, is in the process of turning into speakeasy Hide Kitchen & Cocktails. It will retain its menu, which includes a variety of pizzas, including the General Tso’s pizza with chicken, cashews and General Tso’s sauce.

Forno Vero Neapolitan Kitchen & Drinkery. Boasting towering tiled wood-fired ovens and high-quality ingredients for its Neapolitan-style pizza, Forno Vero in the Marietta Square Market offers seven pies with blistered crusts and classic toppings. Grab food to go or take a seat at Forno’s centrally located bar, which serves the market with 20 beers on tap, wine and cocktails.

Junior’s Pizza. Originally a pop-up turned delivery business from husband-and-wife owners Alex and Jennifer Aton, the counter service New York-style pizza concept is focused on thin-crust pies “using high-quality ingredients and unique recipes.” Read our review here.

MTH Pizza. The team behind Muss & Turner’s and other Atlanta restaurants is dedicated to “the holy trinity of baked dough, sauce and cheese.” Read our review here.

Minnie Olivia. The Alpharetta spot comes from Julio Delgado, who previously served as the executive chef at New Realm Brewing and the now-shuttered JP Atlanta. The menu features a variety of wood-fired pizzas, pastas and Italian small plates, as well a full bar.

Nancy’s Pizza. A Dunwoody location of the Chicago-style stuffed pizza eatery opened early this year. The Dunwoody location marks the fifth Nancy’s in metro Atlanta -- there are also locations in Midtown, Buckhead, Camp Creek and Johns Creek.

Pizza Legion. The new Kennesaw spot offers more than 20 gourmet pizzas, including the Effin Cheese, Fungus Feverus and Redneck Roman as well as a build your own option.

Plant-Based Pizza. Get your favorite treat veganized at this new spot, which offers several styles of pizza made with vegan cheese. Choose from a variety of toppings and create your own or select from options including the Georgia Peach made with veggie sausage, roasted peaches, scallions and jalapenos and the Philly, topped with onions, peppers, mushrooms and veggie sausage. Pizzas can also be made with gluten-free crust upon request.

Silvano Pizza. Marco Betti, the owner of Atlanta Italian restaurant Antica Posta, opened Silvano earlier this year offering Tuscan-style gourmet pies including Funghi Porcini and Margherita.

Slim and Husky’s. Founded by three childhood friends and Tennessee State University grads, Clint Gray, Derrick Moore and E.J. Reed, Slim & Husky’s is a “artisan pizza shop with a love for hip-hop culture, locally sourced ingredients and building community.” Read more here.
