After a testing period in October, Pizza Hut's new round box is now permanent at one Phoenix location.
Initially used with Pizza Hut's new meat alternative pizza with Incogmeato Italian Sausage, the round boxes will now be used for all medium and large pizzas bought at the restaurant on Thomas Road.
"The box is a win, win — it will improve the pizza-eating experience for our customers and simplify the operating experience for our team members," Nicolas Burquier, chief customers and operations officer for Pizza Hut, said in an initial release in October.
Is a round pizza box better?
The round box came to fruition after two years of design and testing. It was made specifically to protect pizzas during delivery, giving them less room to slide around inside the box, and to reduce the overall size of the box.
The smaller size requires less materials to make and fits in the refrigerator more easily, Pizza Hut claims. The box comes in two pieces, a plate and a lid, rather than the traditional connected box. The two sections interlock to seal the pizza and are also stackable.

For now, Pizza Hut fans can find the round box at the restaurant located at 3602 E. Thomas Road in Phoenix. But look out for it at more locations soon — Pizza Hut says it will expand usage of the round box to as many as 30 Phoenix area stores in early 2020.
