Domino's Pizza driver death: Canton man arrested - Clarion Ledger

A Canton man arrested Thursday night in connection with an armed robbery and shooting at a gas station is also the suspect in the slaying of a Domino's Pizza delivery driver whose body was found behind an abandoned house earlier this week, Madison County Sheriff Randy Tucker announced Friday.

Terrance J. Caldwell was arrested at 9:45 p.m. Thursday by the Madison County Sheriff's Department with the help of other law enforcement agencies, Tucker said in a news release.

Jasco Station store clerk Ranjit Singh was shot in the face during a Thursday morning robbery. The convenience store is located on West Peace Street off I-55. Singh is expected to survive, WLBT-TV reported.

Caldwell has been charged with armed robbery, attempted capital murder and possession of a firearm by a felon in relation to the robbery and shooting at Jasco Station, the release said.

Caldwill will also be charged in relation to the slaying of Hilereca Dortch, the release said.

Dortch, 31, was last seen leaving a Domino's location in Canton around 2 p.m. Dec. 13 to deliver pizzas, her aunt Tammie Dortch said. The delivery driver's car was found on Saturday behind an abandoned house, her aunt said.

Madison County deputies found her body Tuesday afternoon near the intersection of Old Yazoo Road and Heindl Road, about 5½ miles from where her car was parked.

Jackson attorney Christopher Espy said he has been retained by the Dortch family to help investigate Hilereca's death. The family released a statement Friday afternoon through Espy.

"The Dortch family is grief stricken and devastated by the tragic loss of Hilereca. A mother has lost a daughter, a 9-year(-old) boy has lost his mother and our community has lost a kind, beautiful young woman who will be missed (by) her friends and family.

The family appreciates the outpouring of support and condolences. The family also appreciates the efforts of Madison County Sheriff's Department to quickly identify and apprehend a suspect in connection with this senseless crime.

We will continue to monitor the investigation as more details concerning her disappearance and death are uncovered.

In the meantime, the family has set up a memorial fund to assist with funeral expenses."

The U.S. Marshal's Service, Lexington Police Department and Holmes County Sheriff's Department assisted with the arrest, the release said. The Madison County Sheriff's Department conducted the investigation with the help of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation, MBI Crime Scene Unit and Canton Police Department.

The release said more updates will be provided as they become available in the ongoing investigation.
